About Us

Rural Sales and Marketing Pty Ltd (RSM) was founded by David and Margaret Mullen in 1973, distributing rural products to Dealers in New South Wales and Victoria. An association with Gallagher Electric Fence products led to increased market penetration of that product and a universal recognition of its quality and performance.

Over the next few years a national sales force was formed, spearheaded by the Gallagher Electric Fencing products and complimented by other products sourced to develop a complete fencing systems approach to the market. Education of Farmers and Dealers by mini field days, training sessions, took on a more significant marketing role within a strategy to develop sales in "pasture land" markets apart from the more traditional coastal Dairy areas.

In 1982 Gallagher RSM Pty Ltd was formed which formalised the relationship with Gallagher Electronics Ltd of New Zealand,with a comprehensive long term distribution agreement. In 1993 the company name changed to Gallagher Australia P/L.

Growth to the number one position of the Australian Power Fence market was steady but sure, culminating in a National market share of 62%.

1988 saw Gallagher Australia P/L take a majority equity interest in Gallagher Snell Inc. of USA based in San Antonio, Texas - renamed Gallagher Power Fence Inc.

Gallagher - USA under the presidency of Erwin Quinn, is following a similar growth pattern to Gallagher Australia, with major opportunities in the life style/ small farm market.

The Gallagher marketing and distribution companies of Australia and USA, have and are having, a profound effect on the marketing and farmer usage of Electric Fencing in Agriculture today. Gallagher fencing offers farmers significant savings in less time and effort to build, and versatility unmatched by regular fencing.

The two companies have gained high profile reputations as leading suppliers to today's rural dealer organisations by marketing Gallagher into its Leading Brand Profile via innovative marketing procedures.

In August 1994 we commenced a Gallagher Security Division in Australia, selling electrified perimeter fencing for industry protection. Positive acceptance has been achieved in many target areas of industry.
